Officials: Georgetown Prep staffer brings gun to school

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A Georgetown Preparatory School staffer has been arrested and charged for bringing a gun to school, officials said. 

Police responded to the school located at 10900 Rockville Pike in Rockville for a report that a school employee had a gun in the school. Stephen P. Lafferty, 51, had brought a Smith & Wesson revolver into his office and placed it on his desk, officials said. 

Lafferty brought the gun to school have some work done to it later in the day. He brought the gun into his office to show it to someone else, officials said. The gun was unloaded and was in a holster while on the desk.

After the arrest, Police also found a drug paraphernalia on him. He has been charged with 'one count of possessing a dangerous weapon on school property and one count of possession of CDS paraphernalia'. 

He has since been released on bond.

Giant Panda cub updates

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Giant Panda cub now weighs 7.7 pounds, zoo officials said. 

The mother of the cub, Mei Xiang leaves her cub for up to two hours at a time to get breakfast. At some point, the mother and cub will be comfortable spending many hours away from each other. The cub is even sleeping through the exams.  Mei nurses the cub before she goes out to get breakfast, zoo officials said.

The cub is now 23 inches long and her right front paw measured in at 2.4 inches long (6 centimeters) and her hind paws at 3 inches (8 centimeters), officials said.

Mom creates undergarment company for comfort

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- As the saying goes, "necessity is the mother of invention."  A mother of three decided she needed more comfortable undergarments so she set out to make her own.

Angela Newnam created Knock Out Panties.  Angela says all of her products are made in America and she uses her company to support Foundation for Women's Cancer below the belt.
