New Credit Rules One Year Later: What Effect has it had?

One year after new credit card regulations were enacted to stop some questionable billing practices and where are we?

  • Over the limit penalty charges have been dramatically decreased. Previously, card holders could be hit with over the limit charges that effectively kept them over the limit. Now that has been curtailed enough where the monthly payment can be applied to the actual balance owed.

  • Before the new rules, card issuers would routinely approve transactions that would cause cardholders to exceed their limits resulting in the dreaded over the limit fees. Now customers cannot be penalized for going over their limits unless they say they want such transactions to go through.

The DC Independent Film Festival, March 3-13

The DC Independent Film Festival, March 3-13

The 12th annual DC Independent Film Festival kicks off this Thursday March 3 and runs through Sunday March 13. Since 1999, the DCIFF has featured a wide selection of independent films with an emphasis on filmmakers based in the District, Maryland, and Virginia.

One local film being showcased this year is Late Rounders, a feature length documentary by area filmmaker Evan A. Marshall. The film follows a group of college football players as they prepare for draft day in the hope that they will be selected by an NFL team. Sports fans and non-sports fans alike should identify with these young men as they wait to see whether or not their dreams will become a reality. Late Rounders plays at the Artisphere in Arlington on March 13.

Man Killed On Key Bridge Identified

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A DC Police officer was struck after he responded to an accident on the Key Bridge late Sunday night.

Officials tell 9NEWS NOW the officer responded to a serious accident involving a moped on the bridge around 10:30 p.m.  The police say Aliester Elizardo Pineda-Medrano of Arlington was walking his moped in the right hand lane toward Virginia when he was struck by a silver Mercury SUV. The silver Mercury did not stop, traveling into Virginia. Pineda-Medrano, 23, died.

Before a lookout was even posted for the vehicle, Maryland State Police say the driver was stopped by a trooper on I-270 who noticed the Mercury had two flat tires and front end damage.

He has been identified as 40-year-old Anthony Randolph. He has been charged with DUI but not with the hit-and-run on the Key Bridge.
