Case Design/Remodeling, Inc. Wins Ply Gem’s Designed Exterior Giveaway; Gifts It to Virginia Volunteer Gary Gaal

Week one is complete of the Case Design/Remodeling, Inc. - Ply Gem Extreme Exterior Makeover of retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Gary Gaal's Alexandria, Virginia home. Case Design/Remodeling, Inc., the largest full service residential remodeling firm in the DC Metro area, won Ply Gem's 2011 Designed Exterior Giveaway, which entitled Case Design/Remodeling to a complete exterior makeover package. The remodeling firm, with offices in Bethesda, Maryland and Falls Church, Virginia and in business for 50 years, in turn gifted to Gaal, a Virginia resident and Pentagon employee who has volunteered nearly 19,000 hours to Fairfax County Police and Fire Departments as well as the Wintergreen Ski Patrol. He was the recipient of the 2011 Lee District Community Champion Award for his exemplary efforts.

When Case won the prize from Ply Gem, the leading manufacturer of exterior residential building products, the Case team wanted to gift the award to a deserving DC area homeowner who has given exceptional service to the community. This is in keeping with its Case Cares initiatives, which recently included building a home with Homes for Our Troops for an injured Iraq vet at no cost to the family and remodeling three kitchens with HomeStretch, a Falls Church nonprofit that helps the homeless find housing and jobs. After receiving nominations from community organizations, including Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and the Fairfax County Police and Fire Departments, Case selected Gaal to receive the exterior home makeover.

“We are honored to receive the 2011 Ply Gem Designed Exterior Giveaway,” says Bruce Case, president of Case Design/Remodeling, Inc. “And we are even more thrilled to turn around and give the award to Gary Gaal, who, after serving his country in the military, continues to help citizens of the Fairfax County community with his volunteerism."

With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaching, Case, Ply Gem and Gaal also want to acknowledge the volunteers throughout the DC Metro region and across the country who have worked to keep the memories of the 9/11 heroes alive. Gaal was at the Pentagon at his job as Chief of the Exercise Branch for the office of the Army Operations Center on 9/11 and activated the Army Crisis Action Team (CAT) to evaluate the situation. Gary continues to plan, organize and execute strategic exercises to look at worst-case scenarios in the event of crisis situations and evaluate how to manage them.

“The Case award is just incredible. There is no way I could afford even the new windows,” says Gaal, who moved into his now almost 40-year-old home in 1991. “My wife is ecstatic. She has wanted new windows and doors for the last 10 years… and she is excited about the possibility of having a portico.”

Case Design/Remodeling will give Gaal’s home an extreme exterior makeover valued up to $50,000 with windows, siding, stone veneer and accessories from Ply Gem; roofing from GAF; an entry door system from Plastpro; garage doors from Wayne-Dalton; insulation and weatherization materials from Dow Building Solutions; and architectural design services from BSB Design. The Ply Gem products in the prize package will be combined to create The Designed Exterior by Ply Gem, with products from these other leading building material suppliers completing the look.

Week one began with the removal of the brick on the lower portion of the front of Gaal's home as well as the framing of the front portico and roof gable, see images below.
