CityDance Opens New Theater, Announces Exciting Partnership with Christopher K. Morgan & Artists

CityDance announces the opening of the CityDance Studio Theater at Strathmore and its partnership with Christopher K. Morgan & Artists as its first Resident Dance Company. The theater and the residency advance CityDance’s commitment to the creation, curation and presentation of innovative professional dance, an integral part of CityDance’s mission throughout its 15-year history.

In partnering with Christopher K. Morgan & Artists, CityDance is building on its longstanding relationship with choreographer Christopher K. Morgan.  Morgan, who has been a vital part of the organization for over four years, served as the Choreographer in Residence and Rehearsal Director of CityDance Ensemble until the professional company disbanded in June 2011.

Sunday 7/31: See me channel my inner De Niro

This Sunday July 31 at 8PM, CONQUERING THE ROSE, a feature-length independent drama will screen at the Cinema Arts Theatre in Fairfax. The film tells the story of how the death of Etta Callahan, a young dance student, affects the lives of those closest to her. CONQUERING THE ROSE is written and produced by local actress and filmmaker Jenna St. John, who adapted the screenplay from her novel. The film is directed by J. Michael Whalen, making his feature directorial debut. Award winning actor, George Katt, stars as Jeremiah Mouthy, an artist and teacher who becomes obsessed with Etta following her death.

Shot in locations from Alexandria to Baltimore, CONQUERING THE ROSE, employed cast and crew from D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, including yours truly. I play psychologist Blake Johnson in what is the biggest role of my acting career. So come out Sunday night to see me run the emotional triathlon. It’s just $6!

There is an array of up and coming artists, photographers and fashion designers gracing the city with their presence, creativity and hard work. For over two decades, Mona Hajj has been designing interiors that combine global vision with an emphasis on elegance, comfort, and simplicity. Named one of Architectural Digest's top 100 designers and architects, Hajj's interiors are colorful, textural, and abundantly livable. Her distinctly original and internationally influenced aesthetic is evidenced by her use of culturally and historically diverse adornments such as Persian rugs, Flemish tapestries, Japanese screens, Italian chandeliers, and Chinese chargers. On this evening, Hajj discusses select projects showcased in her book, Interior Visions (Random House, 2011), including a beach house in Delaware, a New York City apartment, the Embassy of Luxembourg here in Washington, D.C., and even her own home in Baltimore.
