DC Cold Weather Style

DC Cold Weather Style

One thing is for certain: DC is freezing cold these days. Whether you are holed up in a roasty-toasty apartment or still trying to make your way back to the District after the holidays, you will most certainly need warm clothing throughout the next few weeks. These clothing options are fashionable, warm, and can be found in local DC boutiques. (Or, if you don't want to venture outside, these boutiques are also online!)

Resort Wear 2011

Resort Wear 2011

It's hard to think about short sleeves, blouses, and sundresses while there is still snow on the ground, but the latest designer Resort Wear lines are now available.

Resort Wear was originally marketed to people who were going to spend December and January traveling to warm, tropical climates. Now it is seen as a year-round look that is especially useful to those who live in sunny parts of the United States and abroad.

As we sit in DC wrapped in layers of clothing and wearing accessories like mittens and faux fur hats, it's nice to take a break and imagine sunshine and mild breezes.

Here's a look at one of my favorite pieces from the Alice + Olivia Resort line. It's called the Denim Roxanna Bustier Dress and it retails for $297. I love that bright green color on such a classic shape!

Are you one of the lucky ones that will be traveling somewhere warm in the coming weeks? If so, do tell!

Awesomely Bad Holiday Sweaters

Awesomely Bad Holiday Sweaters

The golden years of horrible holiday sweaters may be behind us. The 1980's were an excellent decade for tacky Christmas wear. Even in the 90's everyone and their mother (and grandmother) started sporting a holiday sweater the day after Thanksgiving - and it was considered cool. Alas, the holiday sweater has been relegated to hipsters and / or the ironic Holiday Sweater Party.

As a fashion consultant I'm very thankful that stores are carrying fewer Christmas cardigans each year. But, there is a part of me that is quite nostalgic for the joy a really bad sweater can bring. Thus, I recently searched for an awful sweater contender that is a) currently on the market b) displays the true spirit of the holidays in sweater form.

Oooh, did I hit gold.

Gearing up for ‘snow-pocalypse’

Gearing up for ‘snow-pocalypse’

Yesterday, Washington, DC saw a high of 37 degrees. It’s only early December so I can imagine what the rest of the winter has in store. Today I wore two scarves to work in order to bear the cold weather. Jackie suggested that I buy a parka, or some may call a puffy coat. She suggested I try Macy’s and I found a really cute Nine West jacket that I like (shown below). So, maybe I’ll pick up one before “snow-pocalypse” happens again. If you have a great winter coat, let me know where you bought it. Comments are welcome! Thanks people

Heather Swann is crowned MISS DC USA

Heather Swann is crowned MISS DC USA

When  Miss DC USA pageant director, Althea Smith asked me to be the last female judge for the Miss DC competition, I was ecstatic and of course said "YES".  I hadn't ever done anything like this before and the experience was a ton of fun.  The most suprising part of the competition was how much love and support the girls gave each other. Even though it was a competition, the sisterhood they belong to makes it more like a family than a contest.
