Whole Foods Officially Opens In Foggy Bottom

This story comes from Councilman Jack Evans' newsletter:

Councilmember Evans recently joined with residents and business owners of the Foggy Bottom and West End communities in celebration of the long-awaited Whole Foods Market at Square 54.

Square 54 is the former site of George Washington University hospital. Whole Foods will join an array of restaurants, shops, residences, and office space in the new development.

"Over the years, I have been approached by many residents about bringing a grocery store to this area," Evans said. "I couldn't be more pleased with the end result and am happy to welcome Whole Foods to the neighborhood."

The new Whole Foods is located at 2201 Eye Street, NW.

All That Glitters: Laura Lee Designs Celebrates Fifth Anniversary at Finnish Ambassador's Residence

It’s not every day that one gets an opportunity to celebrate a professional milestone at an ambassador’s residence, but Laura Lee Williams, owner of Laura Lee Designs, had the good fortune to do so when she celebrated five years at the helm of her handbag business at the home of Finnish Ambassador Pekka Lintu and his wife Laurel Colless.

“What an honor and gift to have the loveliest evening surrounded by advisors, supporters and dear friends,” says Williams. “The Finnish Ambassador and his wife Laurel Colless are supreme hosts and I couldn’t have asked for a better evening.”

Tiaras, Cupcakes, Champagne & Jewelry

No British weather for this party. The sun shone as more than 40 princesses flocked to the Old Town Alexandria jewelry boutique Mystique last Thursday evening for Mystique's first-ever Princess Party and to toast Will and Kate on the eve of their nuptials. The tiaraed guests sipped champagne and tried on rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings adorned with diamonds, sapphires, and more, all befitting royalty.

Mystique owner Elizabeth Mandros, who is celebrating 20 years in business this year (and her birthday as well), was the belle of the ball. "We had such fun," Elizabeth exclaimed, "It was a perfect night." And her guests agreed. Iris Perry, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, "felt like a princess."

Gift Ideas For Mother's Day

Gift Ideas For Mother's Day

Just as the temperature begins to show signs of heating up, and my flower beds begin to show signs of life beyond winter, I found the most gorgeous collection of silk photo albums that are simply too elegant to forget. And in fact, I was invited to a fabulous black tie event last weekend at my friend, Lynda's home (yes, her home!) and I so wish that I had come across these works of art before I settled on something lovely as a hostess gift-- but not nearly as special.
