The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will host their first-ever Alexandria Shelter Walk for Homeless Animals on October 21.

The new event will raise funds and awareness about pet overpopulation in Alexandria and the thousands of homeless animals looking for a forever home.

The Alexandria Shelter Walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Market Square in historic Old Town Alexandria with participants and their animal companions completing a one-and-a-half-mile walk through Old Town.

“Our Walk not only benefits the dogs and cats in our shelter, but also the birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, turtles, ferrets, lizards, and other small animals we care for on a daily basis,” said Acting Executive Director Mary Beth Mount.
